Taverna on the Hudson officially opened September 28th at 1 Flagship St. The upscale eatery and hookah lounge features Mediterranean food and… well, of course, hookah. The restaurant, located at the base of the Waterview Luxury Apartments, took over the space previously occupied by Bistro at the Bay which unexpectedly closed its doors in July.
The restaurant features an inviting cotemporary space with industrial elements including golden ductwork against an all-black exposed ceiling and bay views. White and black tablecloths and moody lighting lend a refined element to the space. The eatery also features additional outdoor seating is available for patrons looking to dine al-fresco, subject to weather conditions.
Taverna on the Hudson is open for lunch and dinner every day of the week with hours extending into the late night, closing 11PM or later every night. The menu focuses on refined Mediterranean classics and specialty dishes. Patrons can expect for the likes of grilled salmon, lamb chops, and adana kebabs for main entrees. The wide-ranging appetizer menu includes traditional favorites such as hummus, falafel, and calamari to more adventurous dishes such as a variety of nayehs, or traditional seasoned dishes of raw meat which is traditionally freshly ground beef, lamb or veal.
To compliment one’s meal, the restaurant offers a specialty mint lemonade along with a full bar complete with beer, wine, and a variety of cocktails.
In addition to the food and drink is their hookah offering, which features almost 30 different flavors. Patrons can expect to find flavors such as peach, grape, watermelon, mint, among many more flavors and combos.
Its unclear if the new operators have any affiliation with Bistro on the Bay. While most of the interior elements remain from Bistro’s operation, request for comment inquiring if there was any affiliation between Bistro and Taverna was unreturned.
